Superannuation is a highly commended method of taking one's future
retirement needs into one's own hands. Unfortunately, this burden is
difficult to manage by any individual and a great deal of self discipline is
required such that the outcome be favourable. The Government has seen fit to
make it compulsory, shifting the burden from Government to the individual.
Recent changes to the legislation, 9th May 2006, has made it possible
for individuals to use Self Managed Superannuation Funds as a vehicle to
save for retirement and simultaneously using it as a way of minimising
income tax in the near term. Under the new legislation, upon retirement, any
pension or similar income stream or withdrawal from the fund will be tax
free.
